New law helps elderly with bank scammers

Anyone can be scammed at any time out of giving away their finances, but it’s the elderly and the disabled adults population who seem to be more susceptible. Local bank officials give some tips on how to not fall victim to these scams.

With a new year begins new ways for scammers to find ways to steal money and personal information from unsuspecting residents.

A new state law gives Texas banks and financial institutions more flexibility to protect elderly and disabled residents from being exploited by allowing them to stop what they believe are questionable transactions and allow them to report the potential fraud to law enforcement officials for an investigation if needed.
